COUNTRY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Most countries have different legislation regarding the use of egg donors, including requirements in the selection and screening. We handle this by operating with Standards that fulfil requirements in the specific countries.
During the screening process, all donors at Mirum Clinic are therefore selected, screened and released for clinical use in specific countries or areas. A donor can be released to
meet one or several different Standards.
Mirum EGG Bank organizes delivery of oocytes with a set of documents and an identifier attached to transported cells (Single European Code (SEC) for Tissues and Cells
Requirements for oocyte donors:
- аwoman aged 18 to 32
- having a healthy child born
- absence of negative phenotypic manifestations
- satisfactory somatic health
- absence of contraindications for participation in the oocyte donation program
- absence of hereditary diseases
- absence of bad habits
HOW WE SCREEN THE DONORS
Our extensive screening procedures ensure that only healthy donors with very high egg quality are accepted into our donor program.
All Mirum Clinic donors have been selected and screened according to Mirum Clinic extensive quality assurance, operational procedures and policies for donor recruitment, assessment and screening. Only the donor applicants that pass the thorough screening program become Mirum Clinic donors.
Only 4% of egg donor applicants are accepted into our donation program and finally released.
EGG DONOR SCREENING PROCESS
Comprehensive medical and family history questionnaire and an in-depth interview aimed at selecting candidates with no risk behaviour or symptoms of disease.
Psychological assessment by a licensed independent counsellor and physical examination by a gynecologist to ensure that the donor candidate is in good health. We apply strict criteria for BMI, AMH levels and screening of infectious diseases.
A genetic carrier test is performed Karyotype, Fragile X syndrome, Cystio fibrosis, testing the donor candidate for the most common genetic variants causing frequent serious hereditary diseases.
If approved, the donor can start donating.
Vitrification
Samples are cryopreserved with Kitazato vitrification media and CryoTop® straws (CE marked), considered as a gold standard in vitrification.
As we identify every donation we store all the history of every single sample and in case of need can give full support.
Each Cryotop is identified with an indelible donor code printing, preventing to mix up straws from different donors and impeding external manipulation of the code, as it cannot be deleted without destroying the label. Additionally, this code makes easier the identification by the receiving Reproduction Center.
